The Peruvian Civil War of 1835 – 1836 resulted in the division of the Peruvian Republic, and the creation of the Peru-Bolivian Confederation. This confederation was a brief country made up of three states from 1836 - 1839, North Peru, South Peru, and Bolivia. This coin is from this period of division.

The Peru-Bolivian Confederation was dissolved in 1839. North and South Peru were restored to the Republic of Peru.
